The Connection Center: TestimonialsThe following are testimonials from members of The Connection Center. Their information and quotes have been published with their written permission.
"Hi. My name is Bill and I am 49 years old. I really enjoy coming to The Connection Center and have been coming here since 2007. It is a place to relax and unwind and to meet new people. It is also a place to just come and think. There's a lot of stuff you can do here, like artwork and the writing group. I also enjoy the music group. I enjoy other people's company and being able to talk to the staff and members. The most fun I have had is working on the mural which hangs outside of the Center. At the Center we celebrate all the holidays with parties and potlucks which I attend. The Center has also helped me learn new ways to deal with every day stress and to live well with my mental illness." Bill P.
"I was very shy having moved to Bowling Green from Perrysburg Township. I knew one person in BG, my case manager, who introduced me to The Connection Center, and at that moment I knew I was accepted as I am. I found caring, kind relationships, support encouragement, educational opportunities, and fun times. The Connection Center is a safe place where you come as you are and friendly people welcome and greet you." Nancy O.
"Hi! My name is Gayla, and I have been a member of The Connection Center since 2003. When I first arrived, I could not believe all the wonderful things there were for us to do and that they were all free! In the past I have enjoyed Job Club and working with the Work Experience Program. I liked that it made me have to get out of my home and gave some structure to my life. Working on the mural, which we made last year, showed me that I am able to express myself in art. I am proud to have my likeness on it. I enjoy doing art projects, even though I am not really good at it. Coming to the center gives me a chance to socialize with other people who are like me. We play games and talk and laugh together. It is nice to have someone to eat lunch with; it seems to make the food taste better. There are so many reasons for me to keep coming back." Gayla Y.
"Over the years, The Connection Center has thrived, and along with it I have, too. It has given me insight to be more creative and has helped to advance my artwork and woodworking skills. I won my first award for a still-life drawing in 2002 and everr since I have not looked back. I have entered many contests and won prizes and have been able to use my art to represent the clubhouse. The members of The Connection Center have been a good source of support and inspiration. I am grateful to be part of such a friendly and congenial network of people." Bob O.
"Hi! My name is Jerry and I have been a member of The Connection Center since 2004. I first came here when my therapist recommended that I come here to seek help finding employment. The Connection Center has touched my life in many ways. It has helped me make friends, given me a job, and inspired my creativity. I help facilitate the Reading Club and have read many interesting stories. I also attend Writer's Group where I share my compositions and get positive feedback. I have had many a good day just socializing and playing games in the Cafe. If you want your life to be touched the way that mine has, come down to The Connection Center today!" Jerry M.
"I used to have full-blown psychotic episodes with scary thoughts coming super-fast which often kept me incapacitated, and I wasn't well enough to have the insight on how to get better. Now I find I can handle stresses myself instead of needing a clinician's help or going to the hospital. Since 2000 when I became a member, the people at The Connection Center were able to help me when others couldn't. Thery were there to tell me when I needed to talk or cry, when I needed answers, or just needed to work, paint or walk. Because of the Center, I have friendships that have developed far beyond those in my previous years. I'm a more social person than I was when I first began coming here. I needed these new skills, and having a save and social place keeps me rooted whereas before I used to escape to my aging parents' home out of loneliness or boredom. Currently, I'm active in writing, music and short story groups. I have also facilitated art groups and participate in many social activities. Without The Connection Center, I would not live as nearly a healthy lif as I live now." -- R.W.D.
