The Connection Center: About Us The Connection Center is a psychosocial clubhouse founded in 1999 and inspired by The Fountain House in New York City. Operated as a program of Behavioral Connections of Wood County, Inc., The Connection Center maintains it own identity with a separate location, services and staff.
The Connection Center is committed to creating a restorative environment for those who have had their lives disrupted by mental illness. It distinguishes itself from other types of services by its philosophy that members and staff work together. Side by side, they create opportunities to rejoin the worlds of friendship, family, education and meaningful work to further the belief that recovery from mental illness is possible for all. The relationships that are formed at The Connection Center allow members to see beyond mental illness to envision a promising future.

Partnerships
Since 2005, The Connection Center has partnered with the Psychology Department at Bowling Green State University to have doctoral students in clinical-community psychology work as interns at the Center. One doctoral student each year completes a twelve-month placement at the Center working directly with members on innovative projects and programs. These interns bring an excitement and energy to The Connection Center in their work with members and staff. Members and interns have initiated projects and programs that include the creation of a community art mural, a member run theater troupe, a member group dedicated to physical health and wellness, a reading group that reads and discusses short stories, and other projects that increase opportunities for members to be involved in the community. The Connection Center web pages contained in this website are also a collaborative effort between members, interns and staff. Partnerships such as the one between The Connection Center and BGSU help demonstrate the Center's commitment to members' personal growth, recovery and community involvement.
Verna Mullins is the Coordinator of The Connection Center. She has been with Behavioral Connections since 2001 and began as a Psychosocial / Employment Specialist at the clubhouse. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bowling Green State University.
The Connection Center employs other staff and offers internships to students from Bowling Green State University. However, the majority of The Connection Center's success is due to the time and personal commitment of its members. |
